FAQ

Requirements on the placement of horizontal (500GAL) propane tanks

  • 10 feet minimum from any building or shed
  • 10 feet minimum from any property line
  • 10 feet minimum from any source of ignition (i.e. generator, air conditioner, pool heater, electrical outlet, barbecue etc.)

Requirements on the placement of vertical (420LB) propane tanks

  • Can be placed on an outside wall of a building
  • 3 feet minimum from any building opening (i.e. window, doorway, exhaust vent etc.)
  • 10 feet minimum from any source of ignition (i.e. electrical outlet, air conditioner, generator, barbecue etc.)
  • 10 feet minimum from any mechanical air intake (i.e. appliance venting, HRV etc.)

Tank appearance

  • Chalmers tanks are glossy white with red caps
  • Dark green horizontal tanks with black caps are available with notice, on request

Tank maintenance

  • Keep clear of debris and maintain a clear path to tank in all seasons
  • Tanks have a long life expectancy (upwards of 25 years), but can sometimes require valve inspections and replacements
    10 year inspections will be conducted to ensure the tank and appliances it powers are installed and functioning up to code

Tank rental

  • Tanks are a large investment
  • Instead of buying small rent is applied to you account once a year
  • We maintain tanks if there is a leak, painting is needed and replace if out of date
